Supportive Edits That Serve Your Story
At Page One, we are passionate about exceptional stories and well-crafted characters. All of that is an outcome of supporting you—the author. We are founded on the idea that every author can write a 5-star book with the right cheerleaders in their corner.
Page One focuses on developmental editing exclusively. Our editorial notes are crafted from a solutions-based approach. We go steps beyond simply identifying areas of a manuscript that need to be addressed. On every project, we outline potential suggestions that align your story to the strongest possible structure while keeping your vision intact. It doesn’t stop there. We will keep working with you throughout the revision process, as a resource to you, so that you get real-time feedback, clarification, and understanding.
Are We A Good Fit For You?
We specialize in fantasy and romance genres, including contemporary, dark romance, erotica, high fantasy, urban, and similar genres targeting adult and new adult audiences. All tropes are welcome here, no hard limits. Our safe word is memoir.
You can expect a one-on-one experience, where the sole mission is helping your story improve in all aspects while maintaining your unique voice, championing your strengths, and collaborating on weaknesses. Edits to your book are meant to empower your revisions and give you clarity to tell your story in the strongest way possible. We focus on identifying the areas where you excel as a way to inform the solutions and suggestions. Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to make sure you have the most support in sharing yours.
Developmental edits may not be the best fit if you are looking for a tight turnaround. Likewise, if you are depending on your novel to recoup the financial costs of self-publishing. We don’t want price to be a deterrent to new authors, so talk to us about your goals and we’ll strategize together.
What Can You Expect?
All good things start with a conversation. Use the form linked below to submit a request for a free consultation to go over your project, your goals for your book and for your writing career, and learn a bit more about Page One.
Typically, it takes about 5-10 days to read and review your manuscript then a further 2 or 3 weeks to draft editorial notes. Page One delivers notes in the form of a stand-alone document that collects all information from manuscript review, including: first impressions, initial plot questions and assumptions, story structure analysis, genre adherence, plot maps, subplot maps, character strengths and weaknesses, suggestions, recommendations, research, and more. Our edit letters frequently are over 20 pages long for full manuscripts with the intention of providing deeply researched comments to give you a deep sense of how your story is working as a stand-alone piece and within the larger marketplace.
A key feature of every edit letter is a sample logline and sample summary. It’s our belief that book marketing begins before the book is even finished. We provide these initial drafts to aid you in talking about your book on a high-level which can be extremely difficult for some authors. Whether you’re pursuing traditional publication or self-publishing, we firmly believe that supporting your story goes beyond strengthening the content of your book. We want you to have a strong foundation to effectively market and publicize your book, as well.
