Frequently Asked Questions
What type of editing or genres do you work with?
1
Expect developmental editing only. Big picture notes on your story structure, pacing, character development, and worldbuilding consistency. I do not offer line/copy editing or proofreading services, but I will flag grammatical errors, confusing phrasing, or formatting issues that stand out to me.
The umbrella genres I work in include: Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, and Literary Fiction. This encompasses all sub-genres too, like historical romance, erotica, paranormal, body horror, etc. Genre-blends and cross-overs are welcome! I love working with manuscripts (and authors) that don’t fit neatly into categories.
Do I need to have a complete draft before working with you?
2
To get the most out of a developmental edit, yes. Ideally, you’ll want to have completed at least a first draft that you’ve self-edited. I’m open to partial manuscripts that are second, third, or more drafts into development.
Remember, the first draft is essential to determining the story’s main plot. You work can only be edited once it’s been written.
Do you use AI?
3
Never. We do not support or condone the use of generative AI in the writing or editing process. It’s a disservice to your work. To read more about our anti-AI stance, click here to view out anti-AI policy.
How does payment work?
4
Before we work together, you’ll receive a free sample edit that includes a proposal for your project. More information on services and rates is included below and you’re welcome to tailor services to fit the unique needs of your book.
Interest-free and tax-free payment plans are available. Payment schedules are typically either 2 or 3 payments. 50% non-refundable deposit due up front and the remaining 50% due after you receive feedback.
Invoices are sent through a secure online payment portal and your financial information is never stored. If you’re in the US, you’ll receive an invoice from Squarespace Payments. If you’re in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Europe, Asia, or Africa: you will receive invoices through PayPal or Wise, which allows you to pay in your local currency.
What else can I expect?
5
You work will be edited by Amanda Ascencio and will never be accessed by anyone else (no third parties, no AI, no changing editors halfway through). Communications will only be sent from us with a “@frompage.one” email address.
Signed contracts must be in place before editing begins. This protects you and me!
Do you offer free samples?
6
Yes! I do free custom samples based on a selection you share with me. I also have a publicly available sample to give you a feel for what a full edit letter will look like.
